Costco's Big Opening in France

May 24th, the giant American supermarket opened its doors in Villebon-sur-Yvette. Being second place in the world, Costco has 723 stores, and a turnover of 116 billion dollars.

What makes Costco successful, is its low-cost concept. All of the stores have a large surface (12 000 square meters), but look very basic. The offer is both dietary and non-dietary based, and the products are put on pallets. These pallets help sell the products, all the while stocking. This therefore limits logistics, purchases and personnel costs. Products are sold in large quantities and sometimes by packs of the same product.

However, in order to benefit from Costco’s offer, it is necessary to be a « member ». To obtain the membership, a payment of 55 dollars is required in the United States. A price that is reasonable to benefit from all the advantages offered by this giant distributor.
