The non-alcoholic beverage summer report

As the summer draws to a close, we can take a look back at the performance of non-alcoholic beverages during this crucial season for the category, with data from NielsenIQ. Unfortunately, poor weather conditions had a very negative impact.

That's the sales of non-alcoholic beverages over the period from May 24 to August 15, 2021 in hypermarkets, supermarkets, convenience stores, and e-commerce according to NielsenIQ. Sales rose by + 1.3% over the past year.
 
 
- 11,8 %
 
That's the drop in volumes in the syrups category over the three summer months compared to last year. The segment is one of the biggest decliners with limes (-15.7%), lemonades (-12.4%) and plain sparkling water (-10.5%).
 
 
- 2,9 %
 
Iced teas, usually popular during hot weather, have not been able to cope with the bad weather conditions. Their sales in value terms fell by 2.9% compared to the summer of 2020.
 
 
+ 12,4 %
 
Energy drinks, which have been extremely dynamic in recent times, have well managed the bad weather. Their turnover has increased by + 12.4% compared to last summer. Tonics (+4.7%), still fruit drinks (+3.7%) and colas (+1.1%) were the only other soft drinks segments whose sales increased this summer.
 
 
+ 6,0 %
 
After a long period in the red, flavored waters returned to growth this summer with a +6.0% increase in volume. Sparkling versions (+13.7%) drove growth in this segment.
