Auchan tests its first automated store

On September 14, Auchan opened a 40 square meter store on the campus of the Edhec management school in Croix near Lille. This is their first 100% automated point of sale with a model close to that of Amazon Go.

Compared to the Auchan Minute containers, Auchan goes much further in terms of technology. Visitors download the Auchan Go app in order to use the service. They just have to enter their phone number and their credit card number. Once this step is done, the customer can enter the store by scanning the QR code on the app at the entrance terminal.

Inside, this Auchan Go is equipped with 28 cameras that analyze people's movements and posture, without facial recognition. Others focus on the products. Once the shopping is done, the user passes through the portal, which instantly triggers the receipt and the debit of the credit card.

The test should take a few months before being duplicated. Auchan Go could be integrated in places where people live, such as large company headquarters or hospitals.
