The new "planet-score"

The Planet-Score is entering a test phase. At the end of October, several retailers (Auchan, Lidl, Franprix and Monoprix) announced that they were relying on this indicator. It will concern around 1,000 food products displayed on e-commerce sites by the end of the year. The plan is to make it mandatory from 2022 after a period of experimentation.

Created by the Institute of Organic Agriculture and Food (ITAB) and supported by the Global Note, the Planet-Score communicates a rating from A to E. It also specifies the impacts in terms of biodiversity and climate and the use of pesticides. The Planet-Score also comes back to the farming method by taking into account animal welfare criteria.

Carrefour opted last June for Eco-score. This is an indicator developed by eleven digital operators, including Yuka, Open Food Facts and ScanUp. It also evaluates products on a scale from A (low environmental impact) to E (high impact).
