Intermarché tests the Mo-Ka, a “smart” basket

Founded in 2018, the start-up Mo-Ka has developed a smart basket, whose handle is equipped with cameras that identify each product dropped in it. Intermarché is the first retailer to test it. Servers installed in the sales area communicate via wi-fi with the basket to transform the images into a shopping list. Once the shopping list is completed, the customer pays at a self-service checkout that recognizes the basket and displays its contents and the amount on the screen. Payment is then made in the traditional way.
 
The customer can also choose mobile payment on the Mo-ka app. It generates a QR code each time it is used. This code must be scanned by the cameras in the shopping cart before shopping begins. The products are displayed on the phone as they are placed in the basket. Payment is automatic and the invoice is available on the app once the shopping is completed and the basket is put back on its charging stand.
